CLOSINGS & CANCELLATIONS: Hurricane Dorian puts events, happenings and hours of operation on hold

This will be updated through Wednesday evening, September 4. 

ILM and surrounding areas of New Hanover County and southeastern NC will see conditions worsen from Hurricane Dorian on Thursday. In preparation of the storm, closures, cancellations and rescheduled announcements are underway. ILM announced it will stop all flights out of Wilmington at 9 p.m. Wednesday night through Thursday. Friday flights will resume according to individual airline companies.



Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Offices
Closed Thursday and Friday. Updates at

City of Wilmington
Offices and operations will close Wednesday and Thursday; no decision has been made per Friday operations.

Kure Beach Town Offices
Town of Kure Beach offices and services will be closed Tuesday, September 3, and remain so until further notice.

New Hanover County Services/Parks 
Libraries, Senior Resource Center, Airlie Gardens, Arboretum, Cape Fear Museum, and all NHC parks


Brunswick Community College
Closed through the rest of the week.

Cape Fear Community College
Cape Fear Community College will be closed Wednesday, September 4, through Saturday, September 7, including all all student events, athletic events, practices and related activities.

NHC Schools
Closed through the rest of the week.

Battleship NC
Closed Wednesday, September 4, through Friday, September 6. An expected reopening to the public on Saturday, September 7, will depend upon conditions.

Bellamy Mansion Museum
Bellamy Mansion will shutter the museum until Dorian passes. The Bellamy Birthday Bash, celebrating 25 years, will be postponed and rescheduled as well.


ABC Stores
– Close Wednesday at 6 p.m. Updates here.
– Castle Hayne location will be closed until further notice

Palate Bottle Shop
Hurricane Dorian hours: Wednesday, noon – midnight, and Thursday, noon – 4 p.m. Friday: We’ll see.

Tails Piano Bar
Closed Wednesday and Thursday; will monitor storm to determine reopening on Friday.

Earnest Money and Sons
Closed Thursday and Friday.


The Gipsy Kings
The Gipsy Kings have canceled their show at Wilson Center on Saturday, September 7. Ticket-holders can contact Ticket Central directly at 910-362-7999.

Jenny Lewis Concert
Saturday’s show at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater has been canceled. Refunds are being issued.

St. Paul and the Broken Bones Concert
Though their Friday night show was a reschedule from last September’s Hurricane Florence disruption, it seems the band will not make it to Greenfield Lake Amphitheater yet again from Dorian. Penguin 98.3 and City of ILM announced the cancellation today; however, the band agreed to play the next concert season either one or two nights and hopefully earlier in the season. Stay tuned.

Thalian Hall
Two Cinematique film screenings on Wednesday, September 4, and stage performances on Thursday and Friday have been canceled. A new schedule will be posted at

Topsail Island Events
– Thursday September 5: After-business social at Sundial Coffee and Tea.
–  Friday September 6t: Educational Opportunity at CFCC Alston Burke Center.
– Topsail Chamber office will be closed Thursday and Friday, September 5-6, with plans to reopen Monday, September 9, 9 a.m.

Art in Bloom Transference Exhibit Opening
New art by Joan McLoughlin will be featured in “Transference.” The  exhibit opening is postponed until September 13, 6 p.m.

• Legacy Architectural Salvage will be open special hours this Wednesday, September 4th: 9:00am – 12:00pm.
• Legacy Architectural Salvage will be closed this Thursday and Friday. LAS will be open on Saturday, weather permitting. Please check our Facebookor Instagram for updates.
• The Historic Wilmington Foundation office will be closed Wednesday-Friday.

YMCA Programs
All programs will be cancelled Thursday 9/5 – Friday 9/6. Program participants will be individually contacted by Y staff with specific details.
