Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina has closed all beach and soundside access until March 31. I (Shea Carver) just got off the phone with Chief Dan House of Wrightsville Beach Police Department, who said they are currently posting crime tape and the governor’s executive order at the accesses. They are also politely asking people to leave from the beach right now. Officers will continue to be posted along the accesses and patrolling to enforce the governor’s executive order, which again mandates social distancing and no large gatherings. “We feel people will understand in our current climate that we’re just trying to keep everyone safe,” Chief House said.
The North Carolina Azalea Festival at Wilmington, Inc. has rescheduled their 2020 concerts from April to October, featuring The Avett Brothers on October 17, and Sublime With Rome and Michael Franti and Spearhead on October 16. They are also working on rescheduled dates for the Airlie Luncheon Garden Party, celebrity reception, street fair, and parade. More updates to come.
Due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19, Cape Fear Community College May 2020 Commencement Ceremonies will be postponed.

Bald Head Island, North Carolina declared a State of Emergency with a voluntary evacuation of occupants. After 6 p.m. Thursday, only property owners and residents, along with business owners, employees and municipal workers will be allowed on the island. All short-term rentals will need to be vacated no later than 2 p.m. this Sunday and no new rentals can take place starting immediately.

New Hanover County Government, NC will close public libraries (curbside pickup for holds and other virtual offerings available) and Cape Fear Museum to the public until further notice. The county’s parks and gardens, including Airlie Gardens and the Arboretum, will remain open for visitors, but the education centers and enclosed areas at the county’s parks and gardens will be closed.

Due to concerns about COVID-19, all recreation programs, classes, tennis clinics and events offered by the City of Wilmington, NC Government have been cancelled through March 30.
Cameron Art Museum will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 31. This includes all group programs and performances. In the meantime, connect with us online at www.cameronartmuseum.org and on social media. CAM is launching Connect with CAM, a new online initiative to connect with its community, which will include artist demos, artist talks, and art activities for children on social media and on the museum website.
Modern Legend has closed its downtown brick and mortar for the foreseeable future, but will have its online store up and running for folks to continue buying fun items for themselves and loved ones: https://modern-legend.com.
Cape Fear River Watch has postponed their StriperFest Banquet & Auction, which was scheduled for March 27. They will hold the banquet & auction at a later date in 2020.

Brooklyn Art Center has pushed its Made in NC event from March 18 to August 19.
New Hanover County Senior Resource Center recreation activities, programs and classes, including the Castle Hayne satellite site, will be suspended beginning Monday, March 16 for at least two weeks.
All New Hanover County Government, NC-sponsored group activities and events will be suspended through the end of April, including group events at Cape Fear Museum, Public Libraries, Arboretum, Airlie Gardens and Parks and Gardens. These facilities are still open to visitors, but no county-initiated group activities will take place.
As of March 16, 2020 the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at both the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center and the Carolina Beach location has been suspended until further notice.

Brunswick Arts Council announced that today’s Race Mural Event has been cancelled; however, the race will be run virtually. Head to Go Time to learn how to participate if you have previously registered.

Pineapple-Shaped Lamps will run their production “Puffs” this weekend only at Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. and have added a matinee today at 3 p.m. They hope to resume the run in April but will confirm at a later date.

From New Hanover Regional Medical Center: Effective immediately will be the cancellations of all NHRMC events with 50 people or more, tours of NHRMC facilities and on-site SEAHEC programs, plus the limitation of gatherings involving high-risk patients to no more than 10.
North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce Business Expo will not take place Saturday and has moved to May 30.

New Hanover County Schools have postponed Best Foot Forward, scheduled to be held Friday, March 13, at the Wilson Center. NHCS Arts Education Department will work to establish a future date and venue. The annual event includes 14 schools and brings together families and individuals locally as well as those traveling to the area from other parts of the country.

Cape Fear Community College will extend spring break for curriculum students currently on break for one week until March 23, 2020. The college will transition to online programming wherever possible beginning March 23, 2020. This means that 8-week, second-mini session classes will begin on March 23, 2020.
