Tucked in the U-shape of University Landing, a block from UNCW is Wilmington’s fave Caribbean restaurant, serving diners for over nine years.  Family-owned and -operated, Jamaica’s Comfort Zone provides a relaxing atmosphere along with a blend of Caribbean delights. Our guests have graced us with numerous compliments over the years: “explosive Caribbean culinary experience”; “every year we are here on vacation—you are our first stop”; “flavors just dance in my mouth.” From traditional Jamaican breakfast to mouth-watering classic dishes such as Brownstew chicken, curry goat, oxtail, and jerk pork, our selections also include many vegetarian and select seafood options.  Student meal options are $6.99, and catering options are available. Open Tues. – Sat., 11:45am-9pm. Closed Sun. and Mon.

Jamaican Patty – Beef ground with spices and enclosed in its signature flaky crust.  (Available with chicken or vegetable)

House Salad – Romaine, baby spinach, tiny chucks of peppers, onions, and tomato (GF)

Coco Bread – Slightly sweet yeast bread


Fruit and Nutty Tossed Salad – Mixed greens, tiny chunks of peppers, onions, tomato, pecans, and fruit (GF)

Homemade Chicken Soup – Soul-warming and delicious

Fish Tea (GF) – A light spicy soup made with various seasonings, red snapper, carrots, and onions 

Jerk Chicken Wings (GF) – A blend of traditional Jamaican herbs, including a combination of scallions, onions, thyme, pimiento, cinnamon, Scotch Bonnet peppers used to marinate our wings, which are then oven roasted

Homemade Corn Bread – Made using cornmeal and corn kernels


Jerk Chicken or Jerk Vegetables – Ms. V’s Homemade Jerk sauce tops this meal off; spicy enough to be called “Jerk,” a blend of sweet and spice (GF)

BBQ Pork Ribs – JCZ’s own blend of BBQ Sauce – not tart, not sweet, just finger-lickin’ grand

Brownstew Pork – Well-seasoned pan-seared pork simmered with garlic, onions, carrots, and multicolored peppers

Curry Chicken or Curry Vegetables – Meal stewed in a sauce of curry, turmeric, cumin, and coriander having hints of cinnamon

Brown Stew Chicken – Well-seasoned pan seared chicken simmered with onions, carrots and multi-colored peppers

Select two side dishes – Steamed rice, rice n’ peas, plantain, dumpling, house salad, or cabbage

Pineapple Pudding Cake – Our idea of what bread pudding tastes like: sweet and moist
