Beer isn’t always about trophies or accolades. But when the occasional opportunity arises to have a panel of experienced palates blindly judge a brewery’s offerings, brewers can get critical feedback and even come home with the gold.
This rings true for five Wilmington area breweries who came home with some serious brass this year at the 9th Annual North Carolina Brewers Cup hosted by the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild. Bill’s Brewing and New Anthem Beer Project (NABP) both captured coveted gold medals in New England IPA and Double IPA categories, respectively. Other medaling breweries include Mad Mole Brewing, Makai Brewing, and Wilmington Brewing. The region collectively brought home 13 awards.
Here’s a story I covered in January of 2019 (was that last year or five years ago!?) about local brewery expansion projects. Stay tuned for an interview with Makai later this year.
Cheers to local beers!
