encore is an independently owned alternative weekly magazine covering arts and entertainment in the greater Wilmington area for over 25 years. H&P Media owns encore, which comes out every Wednesday, and publishes Wilmington’s only foodie magazine, Devour, which comes out twice a year. We are locally owned and operated, and publish all original news written by local freelancers. Our reach includes everything from visual and performance arts, to film and books, to political op-eds and ‘toons, to nonprofit events, culinary arts and more.
Our online presence is great at www.encorepub.com, garnering upward of a million hits a month. Devour launched in June 2013, and www.devourilm.com is updated quarterly with weekly stories published as well; it’s steadily growing in its infancy.
DEVOUR MAGAZINE SALES REP
Love all things food? Have the chops to make a sale? Are you creative and looking for flexibility? Devour magazine–southeastern NC’s only foodie magazine–is hiring a part-time advertising sales representative to take on the publication’s quarterly run. The sales rep will have two-to-three months to sell each edition (summer, fall, winter, spring) and will be able to make his or her own hours.
It’s a commission-only job, up to 25 percent based on sales, with low quota threshold. Paid on collections. The job is for an independent contractor–required to fill out a 1099.
From Hampstead to Carolina Beach, Wilmington and beyond, you will be selling to bars, restaurants, and food specialty stores, as well as every other business imaginable: car dealers, hair salons, spas, museums, tours…the options are endless.
Send your résumé & cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. Also include a pitch on how you would sell Devour, in less than 400 words.
Devour (www.devourilm.com) is a product of HP Media, which also publishes encore magazine and AdPak, and oversees Encore Restaurant Week, encoreGO and other media.
Interested in learning more about alternative journalism? Apply for an encore editorial internship. Our interns don’t fetch coffee — OK, sometimes they fetch lunch on Fridays. More importantly, they gain real-world experience in helping produce the area’s premier alternative weekly publication.
To participate, interns must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program and be able to earn academic credit. Internships are available during the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters. All internships are unpaid. For information on how to apply, email email@example.com. No phone calls, please.
